Celebrating   our   Seniors

After years of dedication and hard work, our seniors are graduating! This is a time of excitement, anticipation, and perhaps also a little sadness. At Adams, we set aside a Sunday to honor these feelings and the young men and women who have such a special place in our hearts. This day is Senior Sunday, and this year Senior Sunday is May 7th. If you have a senior graduating this year, read on to get all the info you'll need to make sure you're ready for this special day.

Senior   Table

Saturday afternoon, May 6th, each teen and his/her parents will have the opportunity to come up to the auditorium and set up a senior table. These 6 foot tables will be provided. Each teen’s table may be decorated in any way he/she desires. In the past, teens have decorated the tables with their school colors and an assortment of items and pictures that the teen feels describes him or her. For instance, if your senior is musically inclined, he/she may want to display their instrument. If they have participated in athletics then they may want to put a football, baseball, etc. on display. Other ideas for what to display are things like awards they have received, their first speeding ticket (or other milestones lol), and significant items from their childhood (like a special blanket or stuffed animal). Next to his/her table will be an easel with a picture and a photo mat which the church will provide.

Celebration    Lunch

At 12:15, the youth ministry is providing a celebration lunch for our seniors, their family and special guests, and the youth group. The party will be in the dining room at the church building. This lunch is a time to fellowship, celebrate, and tell stories about your senior. While you don't have to have anything planned ahead of time, I do recommend jotting down a few funny stories so you'll have something prepared to share.

Senior   Slideshow

As always, we will show a Senior Slideshow during the worship service on Senior Sunday. This slide show will highlight each of our seniors, with 40-45 photos of your choosing, while a letter from the parents to their student is read in the background. It is important that you keep the deadlines below as this is actually a very time consuming project to put together.

Teens and parents often find this to be the most impacting part of the day, because it is a chance for you to tell them how proud you are of them and how much you love them. It's also a great opportunity for parents to tell some funny stories and reflect on the previous 18 long (or short depending on how hard the student is to raise lol) years they've had with their student.

Senior   Bio

There will be an insert in the Sunday bulletin with a brief bio of each of our seniors. We like the seniors to write this themselves. Bios should include:
  • Student's name
  • Birth date
  • Parent's names
  • Where they attend high school
  • Their plans after high school
  • Favorite Bible verse or story and why
  • Favorite youth group/church memory

Dates and Checklist

April 2nd (Sunday) - Turn in the following:
  • 40-45 pictures of your senior from different times of his/her life. Please give me the photos in a digital format on a jump drive. This will be returned to you when I'm finished with it. An alternate way to send them is via google drive or share an album with me.
    • We also have the ability to include brief video clips. These clips will not have any sound, but are great for things like sports or funny moments. Please note that the longer a video segment is, the fewer pictures we will be able to show.
  • The letter that will be played during the slide show. You will have a chance to record this before Senior Sunday. This letter should be between between 2.5 and 4 minutes long. Please write this before you come and run through it at least once or twice to know how long it is.  The video segment is a little longer this year (4 minutes) due to their only being 4 seniors. However, I do not want any more than 30 seconds of each student's slide show to be silent, therefore if the letter is 2.5 minutes long, their segment will be 3 minutes long. Keep this in mind when planning pictures, etc...
  • An estimated headcount that will be attending the luncheon with your teen. This includes any nuclear family members, extended family members, and any significant individuals that you invite on behalf of your teen. This head count is very important, because we need to know how much food to purchase.
  • A bio of your teen written by your teen. Please have them write this in paragraph form. The outline for the paragraph is listed above in the right hand column.

April 2nd - 24th
  • Select a day to record your senior letter. This will happen in Ryan's office. It is imperative that we get this done during the is timeframe due to the arduous editing process involved in creating the video.
May 6th (Saturday by appointment)
  • Decorate your Senior Table. The timeframe on Saturday is flexible. If necessary, this can be done the 5th or the 6th with communication. Tables will be provided, but table cloths will not. I recommend a plastic one from dollar tree of the color of your choice. Please let me know in advance when you plan to be there.
